Hatchet 3 is the Hatchet's horror film from 2013. It chronicles Victor Crowley's ongoing adventures in Louisiana's Honey Island Swamp, as in addition to his violent murderous rampage. Kane Hodder portrays Victor Crowley while Brian Quinn plays Deputy Winslow. Rileah Vanbilt plays Misty.



The film's main strength lies in the use of real-world special effects. Hatchet 3 uses a majority of practical makeup effects and sets. This is a departure from the majority of horror films nowadays that heavily rely on CG effects. The film also has several truly terrifying moments.

Kane Hodder is a standout in the ensemble and is a formidable villain. It feels like a slasher film from the 1980s and the dialogue is somewhat funny and snarky. There are also some hilarious moments that stand out against all the gut-wrenching scenes.

Unfortunately, due to the limited budget (reportedly just $1 million) most of the locations are repeats from previous films in the series--the same boat house was used two times within the movie and much of it feels like it's been recycled from other films in this franchise. Hatchet or Hatchet II may find it familiar, and this can lead to the movie feeling too familiar.
